About us

Situated in the heart of the historic town of Rye - one of the famous Cinque Ports - we are a  lively group of Christians of mixed ages and backgrounds seeking to live out our faith in this local community.

History

Rye Baptist Church was founded in 1750 and is one of the oldest in Sussex. We moved to our present building in ...

We’re really glad you’ve found us!

A warm welcome to

Rye Baptist Church online -

we hope you will find

the site interesting.

RBC is located centrally in the ancient town of Rye on the coastal borders of East Sussex and Kent.  Our mission is to demonstrate and share the love of God to our local community and to introduce individuals to the living Christ.  You can read more about what we believe and why here.

We are a friendly group of Christians and you would find a warm welcome at any of our activities.

We are led, taught and

pastored by Revd Fiona Gill.

Read more about her here.

The Church is organised and overseen by a group

of five Deacons

Currently they are:

In our largely secularised society, the idea of faith in an invisible being – let alone a real relationship with him, may seem a little odd.

But to shut out the notion of a spiritual dimension to life is really to be only half alive!  We are spiritual entities and whether it's fashionable or not, God is real and He can be known – and what a difference that makes when you meet Him for yourself.

You will find a full list of what is happening this month by following the diary link at the top of the page.

Our main service is at 10.45am on a Sunday and is a relaxed time of worship and teaching, with a mix of contemporary and traditional music from our gifted team of musicians.  There are activities for children and young people so that the whole family can worship and learn together. Once a month there is an all-age service with family communion.  Afterwards we stay and chat over a cup of tea or coffee downstairs - a good time to catch up with old friends and maybe make some new ones!

Mid week there are house groups in various members’ homes and you would be most

welcome to join one of these groups - there will be one that is just right for you, so talk to us about that when you next visit.

On a Thursday morning from Spring to Christmas we open for the Coffee Morning - a popular opportunity to share God’s love by means of drinks and home made cakes at very reasonable prices!

We have level access to our food and drink service area and stair lifts to toilets so customers with disabilities are particularly welcome.

Friday mornings see our Butterfly Club for carers and toddlers -  a safe Christian environment for little ones, and a chance for grown ups to talk and, if appropriate, receive pastoral care.

OASIS meets on the last Friday of each month from 3-5pm.  It’s a place where those who have

suffered loss can meet together, laugh and cry together, and find help and encouragement from

others who have walked the same path. For more info - call Fiona - details on the Contact page.
